Michelle Anderst

Bozeman based artist Michelle Anderst creates detailed oil paintings of microcosms in nature which are commonly overlooked. She observes the extraterrestrial quality of insects, fungi, gemstones and plants, then combines these surreal worlds with geometric diagrams and symbols from ancient esoteric belief systems to describe the interconnectivity and design behind all living things. Her inspiration is drawn from microscopic imagery, studies of ecology and her solo backpacking trips in remote wilderness. Anderst received her certification in scientific illustration from the University of Washington and studied classical painting and drawing at Southern Oregon Art Academy.
