Laura began using quills in her jewelry in 2018, after her dog, “Pig”, came home with a porcupine quill in her tongue. With a desire to use the quills for jewelry, Laura found the dead porcupine and harvested the quills. Each piece is unique and one-of-a-kind, incorporating brass, gold and copper finishes. The finished product is only complete after sorting through thousands of quills, clipping the barbs, several thorough washes and hand selection of each quill. From start to finish, each quill is handled and selected with the intention of paying respect to the grace and beauty of Montana wildlife.
