My name is Cassie Loretta Smith. I am a bartender, illustrator, and seamstress living and working in Missoula, MT. My work at the Made Fair this year depicts mountainscapes using only pattern as shading. I outline the mountain first, and then fill them in with various densities of line to allude to the natural shading of the landscape. This is done with waterproof pen. For the sky, I use a combination of watercolor, acrylic, and oil based paints. This series started 5 years ago, when I stayed with my aunt and uncle in the mountains outside of Santa Cruz for a month. There, I was fortunate to have time to play around with creating different patterns that I felt complimented one another. The series has come a long way, now feeling like complete works of art. I hope you enjoy!
