Cassie Loretta Smith

My name is Cassie Loretta Smith. I am a bartender, illustrator, and seamstress living and working in Missoula, MT. My work at the Made Fair this year depicts mountainscapes using only pattern as shading. I outline the mountain first and then fill them in with various densities of line to allude to the natural shading of the landscape.This is done with a waterproof pen. For the sky, I use a combination of watercolor, acrylic, and oil based paints. This series started 5 years ago, when I stayed with my aunt and uncle in the mountains outside of Santa Cruz for a month. There, I was fortunate to have time to play around with creating different patterns that I felt complimented one another. The series has come a long way, now feeling like complete works of art.
