Nancy Bagato appreciates the beauty in everyday, discarded, and found objects and loves combining them into a new artwork. She creates cigar box shadowboxes, sock critters, felt-and-button brooches, and upcycled decoupage bottle cap magnets. She matches magazines, paper dolls, and other images with fabrics and found materials to create vignette boxes of western scenes and miniature rooms. She envisions a creature inside a patterned sock and brings it to life to create unique sock critters, including the ordinary (monkeys, cats, rabbits), odd (buffalo, platypus, bucking bronco, sloth), and mythical (Sock Ness Monster, Count Sockula, werewolf, yeti). Her bottle cap magnets are little jewels of fun, funky, sassy nonsense inspired by the found images and materials arranges on reclaimed caps. She began designing and sewing her own creatures, puppets, beings, and their outfits as a child.
