Lisa Ernst Porcelain

Fine functional Porcelain, handmade/hand- painted. My work contains strong influences from Japan folk craft tradition and classical European forms, with a gestural watercolor style of design work. There is an affinity with the material. I use mostly English porcelain for its luscious creamy color. Most of the work is thrown on the wheel. The designs are rendered in several stages, usually 3 to 4 layers: Drawing, waxing, incising, inlaying glaze followed with the first firing. Next, I apply washes (coloring in the designs) then clear glaze, a final color and final firing to 2350 degrees.
I strive to make objects that hold function and artistry. Often they have the quality of small sketches. Fine tableware for the every meal and special gatherings.
