I am a Missoula County artist who developed the concept of Doodad art 3 years ago when family members began giving only handmade gifts during the holidays. In that moment, working with up-cycled metal to create a sculpture is what I decided to do. The result: I loved making my first Doodad, the family loved having Doodads, I became 'hooked on metal" and Doodad art was born. The first Doodad was a small sculpture only a few inches tall. Today, after fine tuning the process, Doodads now include larger sculptures, decorative tables and wall hangings. Many things make Doodad art special; the use of up-cycled metals makes them environmentally friendly, reduces landfill waste and supports reusing instead of buying new; the creation process does not require special metal working skills or chemicals; and most of all they are just fun, functional and definitely unique things to have around!
